kansas city film history

a rich history in film and animation

Kansas City is home to Historic Film Row, one of America’s largest distribution hubs which housed Hollywood studios like MGM, 20th Century Fox, Warner Brothers and Paramount. Did you know Walt Disney was introduced to film and opened his first studio, Laugh-O-gram Studio, in KC?

The KC Film Office  and Visit KC, with support from the City of Kansas City, are launching a film tourism program where you can learn more about how Kansas City has shaped film and media.

Stops include:

  • The National World War I Museum at Liberty Memorial
  • Union Station
  • Crossroads/Film Row
  • Arvest Bank Theatre at The Midland
  • American Jazz Museum
  • 18th and Vine District
  • Negro Leagues Baseball Museum
